North Africa

The Amazigh (Berber) peoples are indigenous to North Africa, with a presence stretching back at least 5,000 years across a region from Morocco to Egypt’s Siwa Oasis. Amazigh (meaning roughly ‘free people’) and their Tamazight languages gained official constitutional recognition in Morocco in 2011 and Algeria in 2016.

Tamazight is written in Tifinagh, a script used by Amazigh (Berber) peoples since antiquity. Morocco adopted a standardized modern version, Neo-Tifinagh, as the official script for the language in 2003.

He who rides a camel should not be afraid of dogs.

Choosing the taller, more visible path means accepting the smaller irritations that come with it. This proverb warns against wanting the height of the camel while flinching at what merely barks from below.

Boil the water and the scum will rise to the top.

Heat doesn't create impurity, it just makes what was already there impossible to miss. This proverb treats pressure and adversity the same way, as something that reveals character rather than damages it.
