Source: isiZulu (South Africa) oral-tradition proverb, foundational to Ubuntu philosophy — widely documented (e.g. afriprov.tangaza.ac.ke). Wikipedia's "Ubuntu (philosophy)" gives the same wording and translation, "A person is a person through people", and attributes it to Zulu.
